Fabric: Minerva Exclusive Monstera Street Linen Viscose Blend Fabric

Pattern: McCalls Paper Sewing Pattern 8217

When I saw that new Minerva exclusive linen was available, I knew I had to get some! I was able to get the Monstera Street Linen Viscose Blend Fabric and like always, it was a dream to work with! The fabric features a black background with cream colored Monstera leaves splattered all over the print. It’s very pretty and perfect for the spring and summer! Depending on what you make with this fabric, it can be bold or subtle, which I really like. I appreciate a material that can be versatile!

I love working but the viscose linen for a few reasons! The first reason is unlike other linen, the Minerva linen doesn’t wrinkle as quickly or as easily as other linens! It really stays wrinkle free, even as I’m sewing and wearing it. It’s really nice that it not only looks crisp but feels crisp and sturdy also. That is another reason why I really love this linen, is it has really nice structure but also creates really nice drape when you use it. I have made button-down shirts, shorts, and now this top in the fabric is so versatile. It works for a number of garments because of its sturdy yet flexible structure.

And the last reason that I really love this linen is because it is a viscose blend. Sustainability is really important to me, so the fact that viscose, a sustainable material, is used makes my love of this fabric grow even more and really speaks to the quality of the fabric and why the fabric is as good as it is!

I decided to sew up McCall 8217. This is an easy pattern! It has three different variations. A Bando top, a top with shoulder straps and then a top with shoulder ties. I did view C because I love a good shoulder tie! This pattern was really easy! One interesting step of the pattern was that it used single fold bias tape in order to make a channel for the elastic! I had never done that technique before, but I thought it was so genius. I even used a bright colored bias tape to add a fun color to the inside! I really love how this top turned out! It’s going to be perfect for the warmer weather and this is definitely a pattern that I will be making again!
